Early on Wednesday morning, five shops next to the Olowo-Ifon commercial complex in Ibadan, Oyo State’s Orita Challenge area were destroyed by a fire outbreak.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Oyo State Fire Service Chairman Maroof Akinwande affirmed this.
The fire broke out around 2:24 in the morning.
According to Akinwande, firemen acted quickly to prevent the fire from spreading to the complex and other shops.
“Our personnel acted quickly and salvaged properties worth millions. Unfortunately, five out of eleven shops were destroyed,” he said.
According to preliminary findings, an electrical surge that ignited surrounding flammable materials was the origin of the fire.
In order to prevent such occurrences, Akinwande advised locals and business owners to prioritise fire safety and implement preventive measures.
