Unidentified assailants have killed a 30-year-old Point of Sale operator, Aliyu Musa, in Minna, Niger State.
The attackers were said to have forced their way into Musa’s residence in the “T Mama” area of the state capital early hours of Monday.
According to reports, the assailants rejected offers of large sums of money and pleas from the victim, reportedly saying, “We are here just to kill you.” Musa was first stabbed in the stomach before being repeatedly attacked with a machete.
Neighbors who heard his cries for help rushed to the scene but were unable to apprehend the attackers. They initially took Musa to the Tudun-Wada Police Station and later rushed to the Minna General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead before receiving medical attention.
The deceased’s elder brother, Malam Ibrahim Kolo, confirmed the incident, stating that his brother was buried at the Muslim burial ground at 10 a.m. on Monday.
“It is very sad and pathetic. I believe my brother’s killers will surely be arrested and brought to justice,” Kolo said.
The spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the attack on Tuesday, stating that the assailants had fled before officers arrived at the scene.
He said, “On March 2026, at about 3 a.m., we received a report of a suspected culpable homicide around the Mandela area of Minna. Our patrol team from Tudun-Wada Division moved to the scene, but the assailants had already escaped.
“The victim, identified as Aliyu Musa, 34 years old, a POS operator, was attacked by two suspects. Examination revealed he was shot in the chest and sustained a machete cut to the head.
“During the attack, the victim and his wife raised an alarm, which attracted neighbors, but the suspects escaped, and nothing was stolen from the house. Exhibits recovered include an iron cutter used to gain entry through the window and a cutlass.”
Abiodun added that Musa was taken to Minna General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. According to him, the police have launched an investigation into the incident, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the attackers.
