An adolescent has been accused in relation to the shooting death of 14-year-old British-Nigerian Eghosa Ogbebor in the Woolwich neighborhood of London, according to the Metropolitan Police Service.
The most recent suspect, a 15-year-old boy whose identity was withheld for legal reasons, was apprehended on Wednesday, May 6, and charged with murder, according to a statement released by the police on their website on Sunday.
Eghosa was shot and killed in Woolwich on April 2, three youths were initially detained in relation to the crime.
According to the Metropolitan Police, officers arrived at the scene of the shooting at approximately 3:40 p.m. and discovered the victim had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the site despite the efforts of emergency personnel.
The police provided an update, stating that the new suspect was set to appear in Barkingside Youth Court.
The statement stated that when officers were summoned to Lord Warwick Street in response to reports of a shooting, investigations into the event, which happened on Thursday, April 2, began.
It further stated that Eghosa had serious injuries when police and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived at the scene.
“A boy has been charged in connection with the murder of 14-year-old Eghosa Ogbebor in Woolwich,” the statement said.
Following reports of a shooting, police were called to Lord Warwick Street on Thursday, April 2, and an investigation was started.
Officers found Eghosa with severe injuries when they arrived with the London Ambulance Service. Sadly, he passed away there.
Eghosa’s family is still receiving assistance from officers with specialized training, according to the Metropolitan Police.
The statement also revealed that this is the second charge related to the murder.
It stated that a 16-year-old Romford boy had been charged with murder on Friday, April 10, and had been placed under remand in custody following his appearance before the Thames Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, April 11.
According to the police, a number of other suspects who had been detained in relation to the case had been freed on bond while additional investigations were conducted.
