In northwest Pakistan, a suicide bomber in a three-wheeled truck loaded with explosives killed at least seven people and injured twenty more, according to authorities on Tuesday.
The explosion occurs just days after a car bomb went off at a Bannu checkpoint in another suicide bombing, and militants then opened fire on police, killing at least fifteen people.
Senior police official Muhammad Sajjad Khan told AFP, “The suspected suicide attacker approached the two traffic police officers stationed at the checkpoint before blowing himself up, according to the initial reports.”
After determining that a fatal suicide assault over the weekend was “masterminded by terrorists residing in Afghanistan,” Pakistan’s foreign ministry called in the country’s senior Afghan envoy on Monday.
The Taliban administration in Afghanistan has consistently refuted Pakistan’s claims that Afghan territory served as a haven for militants.
In recent months, the tense relations between the neighboring nations have escalated into deadly armed confrontation, including Pakistani attacks on Afghan cities.
