A multi-vehicle crash along the Lagos-Apapa Expressway claimed the life of a commercial driver.

Adebayo Taofiq, a spokeswoman for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, said in a statement on Tuesday that a Toyota Tundra and a commercial minibus were involved in the incident.

Taofiq claims that the driver’s injuries from the collision caused his death.

“Preliminary investigations conducted by security personnel at the scene revealed that the driver of the commercial minibus sustained grievous injuries and died instantly due to the devastating impact of the collision,” he said.

“LASTMA operatives, who were performing routine traffic monitoring and surveillance duties within the corridor, quickly mobilized to the scene to manage traffic flow, secure the accident site, coordinate emergency response efforts, and prevent further obstruction along the heavily trafficked route.”

He disclosed that the deceased driver’s body was given to his relatives at the spot.

According to Taofiq, the car wreckage was taken off the road and given to the police for additional examination.

“The vehicles were then turned over to the Nigeria Police Force for a thorough investigation into both the immediate and remote causes of the crash, with a view to determining liability and facilitating any necessary legal proceedings,” he added.

“Despite the major disruption caused by the incident, the timely restoration of free vehicular movement along the affected corridor was ensured by the prompt intervention of LASTMA officers and the deployment of effective traffic management strategies.”

In response, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, sent his sympathies to the deceased’s family and reminded drivers to drive carefully at all times.

“The General Manager of LASTMA expressed his sincere sympathies to the bereaved family and cautioned drivers, especially commercial transport operators, to be extremely cautious, adhere to current traffic laws, and foster a culture of responsible driving at all times,” Taofiq concluded.
