Rev. Samuel Gbinde, a pastor, and two members of his congregation were kidnapped by gunmen from his Benue State home.
The Nongo u Kristu u i Ser u sha Tar (NKST) Church’s Executive Committee revealed the occurrence in a statement released on Tuesday.
The victims were taken from the pastor’s home at NKST Church, Andyar, in Ishan Classis, Benue State, early on Tuesday morning, according to the church.
“We announce the tragic kidnapping of our cleric, Rev. Dr. Samuel Gbinde, and two members of his congregation in the early hours of today, June 30, 2026, with a heavy heart but steadfast faith in the sovereignty of Almighty God.
They were kidnapped from the pastor’s home at NKST Church, Andyar, in Ishan Classis, Benue State,” the statement said.
The church urged its pastors, members, congregations, and friends to offer prayers for the abducted individuals’ safe and unconditional release.
“The leadership of the NKST calls upon all clergy, members, congregations, and friends of the Church to unite in earnest prayer during this difficult time for the safe and unconditional release of Rev. Dr. Gbinde and the two church members,” the statement added.
“We also ask God to give their families, the Andyar congregation, and the entire NKST family courage, consolation, and hope.”
The church also urged the federal and state governments of Benue, as well as security agencies, to step up efforts to save the victims and prosecute the offenders.
“We further call on the relevant security agencies, as well as the governments of Benue State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to act swiftly and decisively to secure the safe rescue of the abducted persons and ensure that those responsible for this criminal act are apprehended and brought to justice,” the statement stated.
In order to address kidnapping and other security issues, it called on both governments to take more proactive and long-term actions.
Additionally, the Church calls on the federal and state governments of Benue to take more persistent and proactive steps to combat kidnapping and other types of insecurity. Instead of just reacting after these horrible atrocities have been perpetrated, it is essential to confront the offenders,” the statement stated.
The church prayed for peace and security throughout the nation and expressed faith that the victims would return safely.
As of the time this story was filed, the Benue State Police Command has not yet released a statement regarding the occurrence. The command’s response is still being sought.
