A member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Ijebu North I State Constituency, Rasheed Kashamu, has endorsed the governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, describing him as the most qualified and experienced candidate to steer Ogun State into its next stage of development.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the son of the late Senator Buruji Kashamu maintained that the state’s next governor should be a leader with a proven track record of public service, extensive legislative experience, strong financial expertise, and a clear commitment to enhancing the welfare of the people.
Kashamu described Adeola’s long-standing record in public service as a key factor that has set him apart as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished lawmakers.
He said, “Adeola’s progression from the House of Assembly to the House of Representatives and later the Senate is a testament to years of unwavering commitment, effective leadership and service to national development. True leadership is defined by preparation, competence and performance.”
He expressed confidence that the people of Ogun State would base their choice in the 2027 governorship election on proven performance rather than campaign rhetoric.
According to him, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola has consistently demonstrated the experience, competence and leadership needed to govern the state effectively.
He added that Adeola’s extensive experience in the National Assembly has provided him with a deep understanding of governance and public administration, describing these as essential qualities for leading a state with Ogun’s significant economic and strategic importance.
Kashamu also pointed to Adeola’s credentials as a chartered accountant, noting that his expertise in finance would enhance fiscal discipline, promote efficient resource management, and reinforce transparency and accountability in government.
He said the senator’s tenure as the representative of Ogun West Senatorial District has been distinguished by impactful interventions across key sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, human capital development, and community development. According to him, these initiatives reflect a leadership style focused on improving the welfare and living conditions of the people.
Kashamu further argued that the complexities of modern governance require a leader with a strong grasp of both legislative and executive functions. He added that Adeola’s extensive experience in the legislature has equipped him with the knowledge and capacity needed to effectively lead Ogun State.
He said the state requires a governor with a firm grasp of governance, a strong commitment to accountability, and the capacity to attract investments, build resilient institutions, and drive sustainable economic development. According to him, Senator Adeola has consistently exhibited these attributes throughout his years in public service.
Kashamu also expressed confidence in the selection of Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun as the deputy governorship candidate, describing her as a seasoned administrator and grassroots politician. He noted that her nomination complements Adeola’s wealth of experience and further strengthens the party’s governorship ticket.
He said the pairing of Adeola and Adegunwa-Balogun reflects a combination of competence, inclusiveness and strong administrative experience needed to sustain Ogun State’s development while creating fresh opportunities for economic growth, industrialisation, quality education, better healthcare, agricultural advancement and youth empowerment.
The lawmaker noted that Ogun State holds a strategic place in Nigeria’s economy, making it essential to have a leadership team with the expertise to unlock its enormous potential through sound governance, responsible fiscal management and meaningful engagement with both domestic and foreign investors.
Speaking on the endorsement, Kashamu said that his experience as a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly has given him a clear understanding of the high expectations of the people, who, according to him, seek leaders that are responsive and capable of delivering meaningful results.
He noted that Senator Adeola has consistently demonstrated the capacity, integrity, and commitment required to meet those expectations.
Kashamu added that the 2027 governorship election offers Ogun residents the opportunity to choose a leader with a proven track record and extensive legislative experience at the national level. He expressed confidence that Adeola’s years of public service have adequately prepared him to provide purposeful leadership for the state.
