In different operations throughout the state, the Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two suspected members of a livestock theft gang, recovered six stolen cows, and thwarted a potential kidnapping attempt.

This was revealed in a statement released on Tuesday by DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokeswoman.

The statement claims that after receiving a distress call about the theft of seven cows from a cattle yard in the Maskoli neighborhood of Sagamu, agents of the Sagamu Division detained Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37.

The discovery came after a distress call was received early on July 25, 2026, stating that seven cows had been taken from a cow yard in the Maskoli Area of Sagamu by suspected cattle thieves.

Operatives mobilized and started coordinated patrols along designated exit routes as soon as they received the news. The agents stopped suspicious cars along the Sagamu–Ijebu–Ode Expressway based on reliable information.

“The two suspects were apprehended and six of the seven stolen cows, along with the operational vehicle abandoned during the failed escape, were recovered as a result of their prompt intervention, which frustrated the criminal operation,” the statement stated.

The command stated that investigations were underway to apprehend further syndicate members, retrieve the surviving cow, and bring charges against all those involved in the crime.

In a different operation, Babaseyi claimed that on July 26, members of its Safer Highway Patrol Team stopped a possible kidnapping attempt at Onigaari, which is located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

When they heard gunfire coming from the neighborhood, the operatives, who were on a routine confidence-building patrol, reacted right away.

The criminals were compelled to abandon their illegal goal and run into the nearby bush due to the police’s quick response and strategic presence.

After being saved unharmed, the victim and his car were taken to the Ogunmakin Police Post for safety and any required police procedures. “While efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, normalcy was immediately restored,” the statement continued.

CP Bode Ojajuni, Ogun State’s Commissioner of Police, praised the officers’ diligence and professionalism in both operations.

He said that the accomplishments demonstrated the command’s improved operational capability and dedication to addressing criminal activity and promptly responding to distress calls.

Residents were reassured by Ojajuni that the command was still in charge of the state’s security situation and would keep stepping up intelligence collection, visibility policing, strategic patrols, and coordinated tactical actions.

He assured the public that any actionable reports would be promptly addressed and urged them to stay vigilant and assist the police with timely and reliable information.
