In two intelligence-led operations throughout the state, the Enugu State Police Command claims that its officers apprehended 14 suspected cultists and found two weapons, three live rounds, and other incriminating evidence.
Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday, pointing out that the operations were a component of the command’s ongoing campaign against violent crimes and cultism.
Ndukwe claims that after a suspect, Nwodo Peters Chinweokwu, also known as “Sir-P” or “Biggy,” confessed, members of the Violent Crime Response Unit’s Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit discovered a locally made single-barrelled pistol hidden in a bush in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.
According to Ndukwe, Chinweokwu and seven other suspects—Nnaji Emmanuel, 34; Iroegbu Joshua, 18; Nwafor Miracle, 28; Ogbonna Moses Osinachi, 19; Oha Chidiebere Francis, 24; Udebuani Chukwuma, 30; and Elochukwu Oko, alias “Benson,” 29—had previously been detained during a joint operation.
According to the police spokesperson, five more suspects were apprehended in Ezeagu Local Government Area in a different operation that was conducted at around two in the morning on the same day, based on the confessional statement of another suspect, Izuchukwu Obieze, also known as “Small.”
“One pump-action gun loaded with three live cartridges was recovered, and Oscar Ebuka (37), Eze Chimaobi Godson, alias “Torpedo” (36), Ukeje Kingsley (37), Tochukwu Chilo, alias “Boss Me” (26), and Nnamezie Amechi, alias “Obodobuigwe” (46) were all arrested as a result of the operation,” the statement stated.
Ndukwe stated that investigations were still ongoing and that the suspects were giving helpful information to help retrieve other exhibits and apprehend other accomplices who were escaping.
He stated that after the investigations were finished, all of the suspects will be arraigned.
In response, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, the state’s commissioner of police, praised the officers for the successful operations and reiterated the command’s dedication to fighting violent crimes, armed robberies, and cultism throughout the state.
Additionally, he advised locals to continue being watchful, obeying the law, and providing timely and reliable information to the police.
