All three teams would end the group stage with six points if Zambia defeated Malawi and Nigeria defeated Egypt. The Confederation of African Football’s tie-break criteria would then determine the group champion and runner-up.
This implies that every goal scored and given up could be vital in determining the winner of the group and securing a potentially better quarterfinal matchup.
While the runner-up is expected to face a more difficult knockout opponent, a first-place finish would allow the group winner to avoid another group winner in the round of eight.
Nigeria, the nine-time African champions, had little margin for error in their last group match after starting their championship defense with a victory before losing to Malawi.
Egypt may still have an impact on Group C’s result by irritating the Super Falcons or reducing the margin of defeat, even though they are already eliminated from consideration for a spot in the quarterfinals.
