Former National Publicity Secretary Abayomi Arabambi, who filed a lawsuit to obtain access to National Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi’s academic and service records, has been disowned by the Labor Party.

Arabambi was one of the 25 members suspended by the party’s National Executive Council in March due to alleged anti-party conduct, according to a statement released on Monday by Ken Asogwa, the National Publicity Secretary of the party.

He claims that the suspension was later approved by its National Convention on April 28, 2026, at which point the impacted members were no longer LP members.

According to the party’s image builder, the explanation was required after it was revealed that Arabambi was an LP chieftain who had sued the National Youth Service Corps, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the West African Examinations Council regarding Obi’s credentials.

“While the Labor Party wishes to refrain from commenting on the substance or otherwise of the litigant’s case before the court, particularly as Mr. Peter Obi is not a member of the Party, we wish to notify the general public that Abayomi Arabambi is not a member of the Labor Party,” he stated.

“No organ of the Party has sat to revisit or reverse the decision concerning the expelled members,” Asogwa continued, following the decision to suspend and then expel the impacted members.

The party also issued a warning that Arabambi was not authorized to serve as a chieftain or party representative.

“The public is hereby notified that such representation is entirely unauthorized and, prima facie, amounts to impersonation if Arabambi has presented himself to the public as a chieftain or representative of the Labor Party,” he declared.

The party’s attorneys were examining the situation to decide whether to take legal action, including filing a petition with law enforcement, the spokesperson continued.

The explanation was made within twenty-four hours after the NDC rejected Arabambi’s lawsuits, which had asked him to provide proof that Obi’s academic qualifications were dubious.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, Arabambi filed three different lawsuits against WAEC, UNN, and the NYSC before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

He is requesting orders requiring the organizations to make public official documents pertaining to certifications that are purportedly given to Obi.

Arabambi clarified that he was not requesting that the court decide whether the certifications Obi provided to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 presidential election were authentic or fraudulent.

Instead, he stated that he desired access to the institutions’ current records so that the status and specifics of the certificates could be determined.

The NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, responded to the lawsuits by stating in an exclusive interview that Obi has a valid academic background.

The claimant had admitted that he was not contesting the authenticity of Obi’s certificates, therefore the director questioned the rationale of Arabambi’s demand for the records.
