In Muchiya village, Rafi Local Government Area, Niger State, soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 18 Brigade have freed 22 abducted victims.
On September 15, after receiving reliable information about the presence of terrorists in the region, soldiers from the 18 Brigade Garrison and members of the 45 Battalion initiated a fighting patrol, which resulted in the victims’ rescue.
Captain Adebayo Adewumi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 18 Brigade, said in a statement posted on X on Wednesday that the terrorists retreated into the nearby woodland upon seeing the approaching troops.
“The determined troops sustained the pursuit on the terrorists along their escaped routes,” the statement read. As a result, soldiers freed 22 people who had been abducted and found three motorcycles and other random objects that the terrorists had left behind.
“All rescued victims have been handed over to the leadership of the Muchiya community and have since been reunited with their families,” the Army continued.
Alhaji Hassan, one of the victims who was hurt while in custody, was quickly transported to a facility and is presently receiving treatment.
The 18 Brigade Commander praised the soldiers for their “resilience, gallantry, and doggedness” and gave them instructions to keep up the pace and guarantee ongoing control of the region.
Additionally, he urged the law-abiding citizens of Muchiya and the surrounding areas to keep giving timely and reliable information about the actions of criminal elements while reassuring them of the brigade’s dedication to defending lives and property.
