The kickoff of the African Democratic Congress presidential campaign in Sokoto State will take place at the party’s state secretariat on Ilorin Road, as the party ramps up mobilization for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The party’s presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar, is anticipated to spearhead the campaign efforts at the office, situated at No. 1 Ilorin Road, Sokoto, on Wednesday.
Senator Ibrahim Lamido, the ADC State Presidential Campaign Coordinator, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday, indicating that Atiku is scheduled to land at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, at 9 am.
Lamido urged party supporters and the public to welcome the former Vice President at the airport before heading to the campaign location.
He additionally encouraged party leaders in the 23 local government areas and wards, mobilization coordinators, support groups, and organizations for women and youth to rally their members for the event.
“All executives from local government areas and wards, mobilization coordinators, support groups, along with women’s and youth organizations, are encouraged to engagetheir respective structures and guarantee the highest level of participation,” he stated.
The launch of the campaign occurs during increased political activity in Sokoto, after recent conflicts between the ADC and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding claims of intimidation and limitations on opposition actions.
The ADC claimed that the Sokoto State Government had closed its campaign office located on Ahmadu Bello Way, an action that led the party to insist on its prompt reopening.
The party has expressed worries regarding the safety of its members and supporters in light of claims of assaults and political harassment in the state. The assertions have elicited responses from political figures.
The upcoming campaign is anticipated to give the ADC a chance to strengthen its support network and communicate its political message to voters in Sokoto before the 2027 elections.
