Three of its firefighters were injured in different ways during the fire at the AYM Shafa filling station in Abuja on Thursday nite, according to the FCT Fire Service.
Ibrahim Muhammad, the service’s public relations officer, verified the news on Friday to the News Agency of Nigeria Abuja.
According to Mohammad, a fuel tanker carrying gasoline exploded earlier, causing the filling station at Area 3 Garki to catch fire.
He claims that the agency received information about the event at approximately 9:44 p.m. and promptly dispatched staff and equipment to the area.
A coordinated inter-agency firefighting effort resulted from additional fire service authorities joining the emergency response due to the severity of the disaster.
Three of our firefighters suffered severe injuries while fighting and extinguishing the fire, and one of them is still undergoing critical treatment at the Trauma Center of National Hospital in Abuja.
“While the other two were taken to Alliance Hospital, Area 11, Garki, Abuja, and are receiving medical treatment, medical specialists are working to ensure his recovery.”
The cause of the fire is still being looked into, he continued.
He stated, “The public is advised to refrain from speculating and await the outcome of the official investigation.”
Additionally, he stated that the service valued the collaboration of security guards, sister emergency agencies, and members of the public who helped to guaranty a coordinated emergency response.
He added that all responding firefighters and emergency personnel were praised by the FCT fire service for their commitment, professionalism, and bravery.
He claimed that their swift action stopped what may have been an even bigger catastrophe.
However, according to Muhammad, an initial evaluation showed that the filling station’s grounds and nearby buildings were impacted by the fire.
The fire consumed one fuel tanker that had about 45,000 liters of petroleum product.
According to a preliminary damage assessment, the impacted facility contained thirteen fuel distribution pumps.
Two civilian vehicles were totally destroyed, and three fuel dispensers were immediately impacted by the fire.
The incident affected “parts of the Federal Revenue Service (FRS) office and sections of Ahmad Plaza, a two-story commercial building beside the station,” according to the PRO.
He asked the public, businesses, and fuel station managers to adhere to fire safety laws.

He cited Adebayo Zacchaeus, the Director of the FCT Fire Service, as saying that people should pray for the injured firefighters while they continue their medical care.
According to Zacchaeus, the service has not wavered in its dedication to safeguarding people and property by enforcing fire safety regulations, responding quickly to emergencies, and educating the public.
Along with other tactical and rescue operators, Olumode Samuel, the FCT Fire Service Director and Federal Fire Service Controller General, personally oversaw the emergency operation, according to NAN.
