New Chelsea coach Xabi Alonso has allegedly told five experienced players they can depart the club as he starts to reform his team shortly after pre-season training begins.
Portuguese source A Bola reported on Thursday that goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, defenders Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile, winger Alejandro Garnacho, and striker Liam Delap have been informed they can look for transfers this summer.
The combined market value of the five players is reported to be approximately £160 million.
The Sun states that Alonso, who assumed control of Chelsea this summer, has suggested that Garnacho might depart due to interest from another team.
“We’ve talked to the sporting director, and there’s interest from him and another club, so let’s wait and see how it progresses.”
“I wish for it to conclude in the most favorable manner for everyone involved,” he stated during his initial press conference.
Garnacho transferred to Chelsea from Manchester United last summer but faced a challenging first season, netting eight goals and delivering four assists in 43 matches, as stated in the report.
Delap faced challenges in making his mark following his transfer from Ipswich Town, achieving two goals and four assists in 41 appearances.
Badiashile had minimal participation last season, whereas Disasi lost his position in the team before being loaned out for the latter part of the campaign. Goalkeeper Jorgensen additionally had just 12 appearances.
Chelsea have bolstered Alonso’s squad with the signings of Geovany Quenda, Emmanuel Emegha, and Marco Palestra for the upcoming season, as those participating in the FIFA World Cup are anticipated to return to pre-season training shortly.
