Jude Dakur, a prominent candidate for governor and former Plateau State commissioner, has announced his intention to run for governor in 2027 on the African Democratic Congress platform after leaving the All Progressives Congress.

At a stakeholders’ meeting in his homeland of Kerang District on Sunday, Dakur reiterated his intention while discussing his defection and political aspirations with elders, young leaders, women’s organizations, and political associates.

He claimed that “the need to pursue a people-oriented vision anchored on inclusiveness, sincerity, and effective governance” was the driving force for his decision to leave the APC.

“My goal is to offer sustainable growth and meaningful leadership to Plateau State. To rebuild trust in government and make sure that every region of the state benefits from effective leadership, we must collaborate,” Dakur stated.

The candidate, often referred to as the “Captain of the Plateau Faith Project,” urged people to unite, claiming that harmony, peace, and shared responsibility were essential to the state’s advancement.

He called on people to put aside political and ethnic differences and embrace a common goal that ensures everyone has equal access to opportunities, security, and prosperity.

Speaking during the event, stakeholders recalled Dakur’s time as commissioner, characterizing it as significant and goal-oriented.
They claimed that his time in office was characterized by openness, accessibility, and a hands-on approach to governance—qualities that they claimed won him over the grassroots and bolstered trust in his ability to lead.

The stakeholders’ chairman prayed for Dakur’s political movement to succeed, requesting divine direction and success.

Dakur also traveled to Mangu, where he met the family of the late Da. Y.M. Dapan to offer condolences.

Given Plateau State’s turbulent political past, its religious and ethnic diversity, and the increasing number of candidates actively positioning themselves across party lines ahead of the elections, the 2027 governorship race is anticipated to be fiercely contested.
