The Benue State Police Command has apprehended a 23-year-old individual, named Abdullahi Usman, regarding the murder of a lecturer at Benue State University, Professor Gabriel Nyityo.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Udeme Edet, revealed this in a statement released on Thursday and provided to reporters in Makurdi.
The Police Public Relations Officer reported that officers from the ‘D’ Division responded to a distress call from the Adaka area, where they found two lifeless bodies.
“Unknown gunmen killed one Prof. Gabriel Saawua Nyityo ‘m’, 58 years old, and his younger brother, Iorngee John Nyityo ‘m’, 19 years old.”
“The individual identified as Abdullahi Usman, aged 23, from Awe, Nasarawa State, has been apprehended in relation to the offense, and inquiries are ongoing to apprehend the other suspects,” the statement indicated.
The don and his younger sibling, John Nyityo, were allegedly murdered at their home in the Adaka community of Makurdi Local Government Area in the state during the early morning of Wednesday.
Even though state university lecturers are on strike, the murder of Prof. Nyityo from the Department of History has sent ripples of shock throughout both the Adaka community and the university community.
