President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced additional names to the list of nominees for the country’s ambassadorial position.

Among the list of additional nominees is Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, immediate past sole administrator of Rivers state and former naval chief, as a non-career ambassador.

Tinubu also designated former senator Ita Enang, former Imo state first lady Chioma Ohakim, and former interior minister and army staff chief Abdulrahman Dambazau as non-career ambassadors.

The president’s previous list of ambassadorial nominees did not include their names.

Godswill Akpabio read a letter outlining Tinubu’s most recent nominees on the Senate floor during Thursday’s plenary.

In the letter, the president asked lawmakers to evaluate the nominees swift consideration to enable the government fill important diplomatic positions.

Akpabio subsequently referred the list to the senate committee on foreign affairs, with a directive that the panel conclude its screening process and report back to the chamber within one week.

The president had nominated Reno Omokri, the former presidential aide; Femi Fani-Kayode, former aviation minister; and Mahmood Yakubu, the immediate past chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as ambassadors.
