The Nigeria Customs Service’s Ogun State Area Command confiscated goods totalling N2.469 billion in Duty Paid Value between August and September, including a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530 worth N417.01 million.

At a news conference on Thursday at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko, Ogun State, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, the command’s acting Area Controller, revealed this.

According to Afeni, the command’s efforts to prevent smuggling, protect the country’s borders, and promote lawful trade included the seizures.

1,204 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 3,893 packets of cannabis sativa weighing 1.878 tonnes, 428 pneumatic tires, 8,675 litres of Premium Motor Spirit kept in kegs, 24 bales of used clothing, four sacks of used shoes, and 500 litres of diesel were among the other things seized, according to him.

One of the main highlights of the command’s recent seizures, according to Afeni, was the Range Rover.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the seizure of a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530 worth N417,011,982 is one of the highlights of today’s briefing,” he stated.

He noted that N2,469,153,523.68 was the total DPV of the seizures that were reported during that time.

He claimed that the seizures proved the command’s “uncompromising zero-tolerance policy for border economic sabotage.”

Afeni revealed that the command would transfer the 3,893 packets of cannabis sativa to the Idiroko Special Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for additional examination as part of an interagency cooperation.

In order to coordinate actions along the Ogun border corridors, he stated that border security was a shared responsibility and that the command had held high-level joint engagements and security discussions during the previous ten months.

“To effectively combat cross-border crimes, we strengthened operational synergies with the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, NDLEA, and environmental management agencies,” he stated.

According to Afeni, in order to foster mutual confidence and lessen animosity during enforcement operations, the command has also maintained communication with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and border community associations.

He continued by saying that the command’s operations went beyond customs enforcement to include environmental projects and corporate social responsibility programs meant to assist host communities.

The acting controller commended the management team, Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the commitment, tenacity, and integrity of the officers and men of the command for the recent seizures.

Despite difficult working conditions, Afeni praised the cops for their dedication to duty.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude to media partners, host communities, and traditional leaders for their support and collaboration with the command’s operations.

The acting controller issued a warning that the command would step up enforcement against those engaged in smuggling and other illicit border activities.

“Our message to those who engage in unlawful border operations and economic sabotage is still clear: Ogun I Command will remain a hostile area for illicit trade and uncustomized commodities.

He said, “We are still determined to protect Nigeria’s national security and economic interests.”
