The estranged wife of Nollywood actor and director Femi Adebayo, Omotayo Sanusi, also known as Iyan Aladuke, has openly refuted widely circulated claims that actress Toyin Abraham was responsible for her marriage’s breakdown.
In a lengthy statement posted on her Instagram page on Wednesday, Sanusi broke her silence and refuted the rumors that were making the rounds. She also insisted that the actress was not to blame for the difficulties that caused her marriage to fail.
She claimed that she had purposefully refrained from answering the many rumors about her relationship with the actor, but she made the decision to speak up because the claims were becoming more and more accepted as true.
“I have made the conscious decision to remain silent in response to the numerous untrue rumors and accusations that surround my marriage. However, I think it’s important to confront one of these storylines because they are spreading and being presented as facts,” she added.
Sanusi explicitly denied allegations that she confronted those allegedly involved when actress Toyin Abraham told her that another actress was sexually linked with Adebayo during a film production.
She claims that the accusation is wholly untrue.
“It is wholly untrue to say that actress Toyin Abraham caused my marital issues by supposedly telling me that another actress was on a film set with my former partner.
For the record, I never approached, assaulted, harassed, or attacked a man or woman at a filming location.
There was never an incident like that,” she said.
Sanusi clarified that she was present for the entire production that was mentioned in the rumors and actively helped it succeed by keeping an eye on the crew’s and actors’ well-being.
As part of her support for her then-husband, she claims that she and her crew cooked for around 500 individuals during the production.
“I was there for that production from the start to the finish of the filming. As my gift and support to my then-partner, my team and I were exclusively in charge of the production’s well-being, providing food for over 500 cast and crew personnel for more than a month.
I find it difficult to understand how such an incident could have allegedly occurred without a single witness, or how no one heard or witnessed this falsehood in a production involving over 500 people,” she continued.
She also urged anyone who honestly thought she had harassed or attacked them during the production to come forward in public.
“I think it is only right that anyone who sincerely believes they have been insulted by me—directly or indirectly—come up and claim it.
Until then, I respectfully ask that people stop repeating and amplifying false narratives that have no basis in truth,” the actor’s estranged wife stated.
Sanusi emphasized that her silence should not be taken as an admission of guilt, saying that she had kept quiet out of respect for all parties involved and because she preferred calm over a public altercation.
“I have kept quiet out of consideration for all parties concerned and because I prefer peace to public conflicts. My silence, however, should never be seen as confirmation that these accusations are accurate.
This statement is my official response to this specific accusation. I genuinely hope it stops this false narrative from continuing to spread,” she stated.
Shortly after making the statement public, Sanusi criticized what she called the “double standards” of those who quickly accepted and spread accusations against her while questioning her choice to stand up for herself in another post on her personal Instagram page.
It’s incredible how some people have no trouble spreading inaccurate information, encouraging lies, and magnifying negative narratives about other people’s lives. However, they are abruptly accused of “doing too much” when they choose to speak up, tell the truth, or update the record.
So disseminating lies is okay but refuting them is not?
What kind of hypocrisy is that?
“You ought to be equally open to hearing the explanation if you felt at ease hearing the charges. The same platform that was granted to lies should be extended to truth.
Silence should never be mistaken for guilt,” she wrote.
One Instagram user, @akinfalorin.t, responded to the post by asking Funke Akindele to defend her name about earlier accusations made by her ex-friend Toun that had gone viral.
In response, Sanusi denied ever leveling such accusations against the celebrated actress in the comment area.
“You’re still credulous enough to think I said that. Your decision to accept such a heinous betrayal in the absence of evidence speaks volumes about your judgment.
Just as she produced voice notes that were obviously altered to support their story, let her show that I ever said such things. Don’t present accusations as facts till then,” she retorted.
A TikTok blogger stated that Toyin Abraham told Sanusi that Adebayo and Funke Akindele were romantically linked during the creation of Jagun Jagun Part 2. This revelation coincides with fresh online debates.
The blogger also claimed that Akindele’s marriage failed as a result of Sanusi’s public confrontation and storming of the movie set.
The same allegations also implied that after learning that Toyin Abraham had started the altercation, Akindele swayed several Nollywood producers against her. They connected the purported fallout to rumors that Akindele disregarded Abraham during the April premiere of Iyabo Ojo.
A member of Femi Adebayo’s family denied allegations that the actor deserted Sanusi following her eviction from a Lagos property.
Mrs. Taiwo Abdulmalik, a family member, insisted that the property was obtained through a bank loan and that foreclosure procedures were subsequently initiated due to nonpayment.
She further asserted that Sanusi had previous knowledge of the bank’s intention to reclaim the property and was aware of the loan agreement.
Abdulmalik claims that following the foreclosure, Adebayo moved Sanusi, her family, and her employees into a short-term rental apartment, paid for their lodging, and encouraged her to find another place, offering to cover the expenses.
The family member further claimed that Adebayo continued to provide for their kid, including paying roughly $50,000 for his medical care in India, and had bought land in Sanusi’s name in 2022 as a safety net.
Sanusi insisted that the problems pertaining to her marriage remained a private family affair and declined to comment on the family member’s allegations.
It’s a family issue. I’ve never been given an interview, and I don’t believe I want to start right now. She has stated, “It’s really personal to me.”
However, Sanusi’s statement on Wednesday directly addressed one of the most persistent rumors about her marriage’s breakdown for the first time. She called for an end to what she called the ongoing spread of false narratives and distanced Toyin Abraham and Funke Akindele from the controversy.
