On March 25, 2024, police from the Kankara Divisional Police Headquarters conducted a routine patrol and found the victims, who had been held hostage in chains inside Katsina forest.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Police Commissioner, Mr. Aliyu Musa stated that the victims were first taken on March 9, 2024, close to Kushere village in Zamfara.

It was also revealed in the statement issued by the Command spokesperson, Sadiq Aliyu, that the rescue took place in the vicinity of Masiga village in Kankara Local Government Area, Katsina State.

It stated that the victims who had been rescued were now receiving medical care and will shortly be reunited with their families by the authorities.

Bashir Sani (25), Kamaladdeen Sani (23), Musa Muhammad (22), Sagir Umar (20), and Muntari Sama’ila (20) are among the rescued victims.
