Michael Carrick was awarded a permanent head coaching contract by Manchester United on Friday for leading the team to a third-place Premier League finish.
In a statement on Friday, United said, “We are thrilled to announce Michael Carrick will continue as our head coach, having signed a new contract.”
After Ruben Amorim was fired in January, Carrick, a 44-year-old former United player, assumed temporary leadership and guided the team to Champions League qualification with an outstanding run of play.
“I sensed Manchester United’s magic as soon as I came here twenty years ago. I’m incredibly proud to be in charge of our unique football team,” Carrick remarked.
“This group of players has demonstrated over the last five months that they are capable of meeting the criteria of tenacity, unity, and resolve that we require here.
It’s time to move on as a team once more with aspirations and a distinct goal in mind. Manchester United and our amazing fans need to be vying for the greatest accolades once more.
