The Indian Express said on Thursday that the guy, whose identity was not revealed, was stopped at Surat after allegedly fighting with other passengers while riding the Golden Temple Express from Mumbai to Delhi.
According to police, the incident started on August 17 after a passenger reported that the Nigerian national and another passenger were allegedly fighting close to one of the train’s gates to the railroad helpline, 139.
According to police sources, during the confrontation between the train’s stations in Vapi and Surat, the Nigerian allegedly sprayed a fire extinguisher at other passengers.
After being arrested in Surat, he was brought to the RPF headquarters for interrogation, where he allegedly passed out.
After being taken to the Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research Hospital, “doctors declared him dead on arrival.”
According to the article, the Surat GRP has filed a case of “accidental death,” and as of Wednesday nite, the results of the August 18 post-mortem examination were still pending.
According to preliminary investigations, the deceased was a Nigerian national who resided in Vasai, Mumbai, according to Western Railroad Superintendent of Police Abhay Soni.
It is thought that the deceased was a Nigerian national based on preliminary investigations. He was not carrying any identity cards when he was apprehended by the Surat RPF, Soni informed The Indian Express.
Soni further revealed that the individual had been detained twice by Mumbai police in relation to allegations of cocaine trafficking.
“He lived in Vasai, Mumbai, and was arrested twice in 2018 for drug (cocaine) trafficking cases by Malwani and Malad police in Mumbai,” he stated.
The policeman acknowledged that the Nigerian had boarded the train from Borivali in Mumbai and stated that the reason for his trip to Delhi was still being looked into.
According to Soni, the GRP has started an investigation into the incident, and statements from the personnel present at the RPF office and those engaged in the custody are anticipated.
“We have initiated an investigation. The police officers who apprehended him and those in attendance at the police station will be asked to make statements. He added, “We are also awaiting the autopsy report.”
