Through a series of intelligence-driven operations led by the Anti-Robbery Squad, the Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three suspected armed robbers and recovered three stolen vehicles along with a fake weapon.
Following coordinated investigations into reported vehicle theft instances throughout Ogun State and neighboring states, the suspects, Hammed Olarewaju, Adedokun Ayinde, and Adedokun Adewusi, were taken into custody.
The breakthrough started when detectives apprehended Hammed Olarewaju, who was discovered in possession of a strange vehicle plate number, according to a statement posted on the command’s X handle on Friday by Deputy Superintendent of Police Oluseyi Babaseyi, the state Police Public Relations Officer.
His arrest prompted additional investigation, which resulted in the capture of Adedokun Ayinde, who was recognized as the purported head of a state-based robbery syndicate.
“Officers found a Toyota Sienna that had previously been reported stolen during the operation, along with a fake handgun that was allegedly used in an armed robbery,” Babaseyi continued.
In a similar development, a Toyota Corolla that had been taken from Ilaro was tracked down and located in the possession of Arowolo Taoreed in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Adedokun Adewusi was also taken into custody in relation to a different armed robbery.
He was connected by investigators to a stolen 2017 Lexus RX 350 F-Sport that was found in Abuja. A second handgun that was found in Ajah, Lagos State, is thought to be associated with the same criminal organization.
According to preliminary findings, the suspects are a part of a coordinated conspiracy that operates armed robberies and car thefts throughout Ogun and neighboring states.
Bode Ojajuni, the state commissioner of police, praised the officers for their promptness and professionalism.
“This operation reflects the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the fight against violent crime,” he stated. We shall keep making sure that Ogun State is not a refuge for criminal elements.
Additionally, he reassured them that attempts were being made to recover more stolen automobiles and capture fugitive syndicate members.
Babaseyi asked people to stay alert and provide early information to security officials.
“Residents’ assistance is still essential in our battle against crime. He stated, “We encourage the public to report suspicious movements through our emergency lines.”
