The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of a lady charged with abusing her 15-year-old daughter in the state’s Ipaja region.
On Wednesday, it was reported that a viral video allegedly showing a lady abusing her 15-year-old daughter at 32 Tashoro Street, close to Ipaja in Lagos State, sparked public indignation.
The unsettling video, which appeared early on Wednesday morning, showed the woman straddling the adolescent with a knife above her after allegedly beating her close to a residential compound’s entrance.
In a statement released on Twitter on Thursday, the LSDVA provided an update on the event and revealed that it was discovered when a video went viral.
The agency claims that in accordance with the state’s protection protocol, the information prompted an immediate response.
It stated that the victim was later saved by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development’s Child Protection Unit and put in a shelter where she is getting care and other support services.
It further stated that the suspect was transported to the Ipaja Police Station after being captured by members of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.

The case was subsequently moved to the Family Support Unit of the Lagos State Police Command’s Ipaja Division for additional investigation, according to LSDVA, and on Thursday it was charged in Court 23 of the Samuel Ilori Magistrate Court in Ogba.
It stated that the offender was placed under remand at the Kirikiri Correctional Center while the Director of Public Prosecutions provided legal counsel.
Residents who reported the event were praised by the agency, which described their actions as critical to the victim’s safety and the case’s advancement.
“After a thorough investigation, the case was charged on Thursday, April 30, 2026, and heard at Court 23, Samuel Ilori Magistrate Court, Ogba, Lagos, despite the defendant’s remand at the Kirikiri Correctional Center pending the Director of Public Prosecutions’ recommendation.
We applaud the prompt cooperation of concerned Lagosians and required reporters in guaranteeing the survivor’s safety and the case’s advancement through the proper legal procedure.”
The organization reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance policy regarding all types of child maltreatment.
Additionally, it reassured the public of its dedication to safeguarding victims and making sure criminals are prosecuted in compliance with the law.
