The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a cross-state motorcycle theft syndicate and recovered three stolen motorcycles during separate operations in Akko Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi acknowledged the development and stated that the arrests were as a result of a tip from a public-spirited citizen.
“On July 7, 2025, at about 12:00hrs, operatives of Operation Hattara led by CSP Ali Madawaki acted on credible intelligence received from a Good Samaritan.
“The team raided a suspected criminal hideout at Tudun Hayin Kwarai, Misau, in Akko LGA, where they arrested two suspects,” Abdullahi said.
The suspects, identified as Misba’u Adamu, 25, from Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, and Adamu Ibrahim, 28, from Garko LGA of Kano State, reportedly confessed to breaking into the residence of one Mohammed Usman in Hayin Kwarin-Misau on July 6 at about 4:00am.
“They admitted to stealing two motorcycles — a Qlink Cassie with registration number ABC 484 WN, and a Hero Hunter with registration number GME 36 QL,” DSP Abdullahi stated. “The total value of the stolen items is estimated at ₦1.8 million.”
The police claim that the motorcycles were found stashed on the property of a specific Babangida (last name unknown). The gang leader and other accomplices who are still at large are being tracked, while the suspects are presently being held. After the investigation is over, they will be arraigned in court.
In a related development, Abdullahi disclosed that another motorcycle was recovered during a routine night patrol in Wuro Birji area of Akko LGA.
“At about 1:00am on the same day, a patrol team sighted an individual riding a black Jincheng Kasea motorcycle with registration number DKU 099 UK. The suspect, upon spotting the team, abandoned the motorcycle and fled,” he said.
Although efforts to capture the fugitive were unsuccessful, he said, the recovered motorcycle is still in police custody, investigations are being conducted to identify the culprit and track down the legitimate owner.
In order to help the police fight crime throughout the state, Abdullahi implored the public to keep giving them useful information.
“The Gombe State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property. We call on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities in their communities,” he added.
