A 60-year-old man named Musa Garba has been detained by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl in Magama Gumau, Toro Local Government Area.

In a statement provided to press on Thursday, CSP Nafiu Habib, the command’s spokesperson, revealed this.

The statement claims that the victim’s father reported the case to the Toro Divisional Police Headquarters on Friday.

According to Habib, the 47-year-old complainant claimed that on May 7, 2026, at around 4 p.m., the suspect enticed his daughter into a hiding place.

On May 8, 2026, the report was delivered to the Toro Division. According to the statement, the victim’s father claimed that on May 7, 2026, at around 1600 hours, a man named Musa Garba, who also lived at the same location, enticed his daughter into a hiding place.

After receiving the allegation, he continued, the subject was quickly taken into custody by division detectives.

The police spokesperson said that during questioning, the suspect willingly admitted to the crime and further acknowledged that he had allegedly committed similar activities against the victim on other occasions at various locations.

Habib clarified that the suspect and the victim were brought to the General Hospital in Toro for medical assessment and care.

He added that throughout the inquiry, the victim claimed that another suspect, only named as Nafi’u, whose last name has not yet been determined, was involved in a different event involving her and is presently at large.

For a covert investigation and prosecution, the detained suspect has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi. The fugitive suspect is still being sought after, he stated.

According to the statement, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, the state’s commissioner of police, denounced the act and reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy against crimes involving minors and sexual and gender-based violence.

Aliyu further advised guardians and parents to be watchful and to notify security authorities of any suspicious activity right away.

The statement went on, “The Command guarantees the public that justice will be pursued diligently and in accordance with due process.”
