In the state’s Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area, the Katsina State Police Command thwarted a bandit attack, saving four abducted victims and retrieving an AK-47 gun that contained five rounds of live ammo.
Early on Wednesday morning, armed gunmen stormed Makwanta village, kidnapping three women and a breastfeeding infant.
This was said in a statement provided to reporters on Thursday by DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the Command’s Public Relations Officer.
The statement reads, “A distress call was received at the Dutsin-Ma Divisional Police Headquarters on September 16, 2026, at approximately 12:22 am, reporting that armed bandits had attacked Makwanta village and abducted three female residents.”
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) promptly dispatched a team of officers to the scene after receiving the report. Along the Dutsin-Ma-Danmusa LGA border, the squad deliberately pursued and stopped the escaping bandits, engaging them in a bloody gunfight.
According to the statement, the robbers ran into the nearby jungle after being overcome by the police team and may have been shot.
Marawiya Musa, 14, Mariya Ibrahim, 50, Amina Ibrahim, 21, and a nursing infant were the victims who were saved.
All four victims were retrieved unharmed, according to the police.
“During a search of the area, the operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, three MP3 players, a knife, and three wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp,” Sadiq added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, praised the DPO and his team for what he called their “gallantry, tactical precision, and swift response,” according to the command, which insisted that attempts were still being made to locate and apprehend the escaping criminals.
Fage reiterated the command’s resolve to continue fighting violent crimes and banditry throughout the state.
He asked locals to be watchful and to give security services timely, useful information that could help save lives and property.
The command stated that as the investigation into the incident advances, more information would be shared.
