Less than a day after the Argentine scored 100 goals for the Major League Soccer team, Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham has predicted that Lionel Messi would win the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Messi scored in Inter Miami’s 2-0 Campeones Cup victory over Cruz Azul on Wednesday, marking the milestone. He also provided the corner from which Casemiro headed the second goal.
Messi became the first player to score 100 goals for the team, and Miami won their first Campeones Cup thanks to the victory.
After the game, Beckham stated that Messi deserved the individual prize because of his exploits at the 2026 World Cup and his capacity to play at a high level at 39.
“No one at 39 is doing that and doing it at that level when you watch him do things like this and having the World Cup that he had.
“He should be given consideration for the Ballon d’Or.” He should win, in my opinion,” he was reported by the BBC as saying.
Messi, who has won the Ballon d’Or eight times in the past, is one of the thirty players nominated for the award this year.
Argentina advanced to the World Cup final, where they were defeated by Spain, thanks to the Argentine’s noteworthy eight goals and four assists.
Additionally, he added 12 World Cup assists to his total during the competition, 10 of which came in knockout-stage games.
With 21 goals, Messi trails French striker Kylian Mbappe’s 22 on the list of all-time World Cup goal scorers.
On October 26, London will host the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
