After allegedly being robbed in the Egbin neighbourhood of Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos State, a man known only as Tosin was allegedly slain by suspected cultists.
According to reports, the incident happened on Tuesday, September 15, following Tosin’s trip from Ondo State to a local event.
A police source who spoke to our correspondent on Tuesday claimed that Tosin was beaten and harassed by some thugs when he momentarily left the premises while the ceremony was going on.
Before killing him, the attackers allegedly took away his cell phones, gold chains, and other personal items, according to the source.
The source claims that the victim’s body was later disposed of inside a river.
On Thursday, his body was found in an Agura river. The source revealed that it was then placed in the mortuary.
According to a different police source, the body’s discovery sparked a raid on the neighbourhood on Friday, which resulted in the arrest of many individuals.
“The individuals who had been arrested were brought into custody to be questioned. According to the source, “the police have started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Tosin’s death and the identities of those behind the alleged killing.”
The insider went on to say that investigations into the incident’s circumstances and the capture of any further suspects were still ongoing.
The incident was confirmed by Abimbola Adebisi, the state police public relations officer.
“The case at hand as of September 15, 2026, was that of missing person which was transferred to the SCID by September 18, 2026,” she stated. A body that turned out to be his was discovered floating. The SCID has been looking into the situation.
