After defeating Mohammed Abacha, the eldest son of the late former head of state, General Sani Abacha, in the party’s primary election, Muhammad Dalhatu became the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for governor of Kano State.
Umar Hadejia, the chairman of the PDP Kano State Governorship Primary Election Committee, announced the results on Monday and stated that the exercise was carried out peacefully and in accordance with the party’s constitution and election regulations.
He clarified that the election, which was conducted to choose the party’s nominee for the upcoming Kano State governorship, was transparent and went without a hitch.
The results showed that Dalhatu won the contest with 2,233 votes, while Abacha received 749 votes.
Hadejia said, “Alhaji Muhammad Bello Dalhatu is hereby declared the winner of the PDP governorship primary election and consequently returned as the party’s candidate for Kano State, having scored the highest number of valid votes cast.”
The committee praised all candidates, delegates, party officials, security agencies, and stakeholders for their maturity, cooperation, and dedication during the process, he continued.
In order to secure the PDP’s success in the upcoming general elections in Kano State, the committee further exhorted party members to band together and cooperate.
Abacha had previously run for the party’s ticket in 2023, but he was defeated by Sadiq Aminu Wali as a result of a legal dispute between the party’s rival sections.
Additionally, he ran as the Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance’s candidate for governor of Kano State in the 2019 election.
