Two visually challenged people were kidnaped by suspected abductors in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, while travelling back to Jos from Benue State.
In a phone interview in Jos on Tuesday, Shindol Aaron, the chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities’ Plateau State chapter, verified the kidnapping.
According to Aaron, nine people were chosen to participate in a training program in Benue State, including the victims.
“They were chosen to attend a training in Benue State, and from what I understand, they left Jos. Along the way, they learned that the event had been rescheduled, and they were asked to return to their station,” he stated.
He claims that the incident happened in the Riyom Local Government Area on Monday at approximately 8 p.m.
“This thing happened yesterday, Monday nite around 8 pm around Riyom LGA,” he continued. Although I haven’t spoken to the kidnappers, I was informed that they were requesting a ransom from anyone who had a conversation with them.
According to Aaron, security agencies had been notified of the event and attempts were on to secure the victims’ release.
We are attempting to find a way for them to be released after reporting the incident to the security personnel. He added, “The car’s driver also went to the police station to report.”
The kidnappers had wanted a N50 million ransom, according to another association member who also confirmed the kidnapping.
