The Kano State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Makoda, has directed a comprehensive investigation into mysterious deaths of two students at Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi.

The late students, Hamza Tofawa and Umar Dungurawa, were reportedly assaulted by fellow students using locally made metal objects commonly referred to as “Gwale-Gwale.”

This was revealed in a statement by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the ministry, Balarabe Kiru.

According to the statement, the Commissioner, speaking through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Muhammed, assured the public that the state government would carry out a fair and transparent investigation, with a commitment to ensuring justice for all parties involved.

“It was reported that the brutal act followed a decision taken by some senior students to treat the deceased as punishment for allegedly committing an offence,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary, who has visited the school, urged students to remain vigilant and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

“You should avoid taking law into your hands but rather make sure you report any matter of concern to the school authority for appropriate action,” the Permanent Secretary was quoted as saying.

He also sympathised with the deceased families and other relatives, adding, “On behalf of the Kano State Government, Ministry of Education and good people of Kano State, we extend our condolences to the family of the deceased and pray for Almighty Allah to grant their souls Jannatul Firdaus.”

In his remarks, Abbas Abdullahi, Director of Secondary Schools at the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He stressed the importance of students using their privileges responsibly and warned against taking the law into their own hands.

“‎Kano State Government has promised to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind the tragic incident,” he said.
