A fire outbreak has razed three residential buildings in the Gaida area, near Fatima Bread in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident, which occurred at about 11:05 a.m on Tuesday, was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi.
The statement noted that the agency’s Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from one Aminu Bello, who reported the fire outbreak.
It added that firefighters from the agency’s headquarters, as well as Sharada and Rijiyar Zaki fire stations, were promptly deployed to the scene.
“On arrival, our personnel discovered that an open area measuring about 50 by 50 feet, used as an electrical transformer site, was engulfed in flames,” the statement said.
The fire was reported to have spread from a transformer site to nearby structures, destroying three residential buildings.
One of the affected buildings, a ground-floor structure measuring about 30 by 25 feet and comprising a room, a parlour and toilet, was completely burnt.
The second building, a one-storey structure measuring about 30 by 30 feet, with a bedroom, kitchen and toilet, was also razed by fire, particularly the upper floor.
Similarly, the third building, a ground-floor structure of about 30 by 30 feet, consisting of two rooms and a toilet, was also gutted.
“The cause of the fire was identified as an electrical spark,” the statement added.
The Director of the Fire Service, Sani Anas, has urged residents to adopt preventive measures against fire outbreaks.
He said, “Members of the public are advised to avoid open flames in public and residential areas and ensure proper handling of electrical appliances to prevent such incidents.”
No casualty was reported as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, a fire incident on Friday destroyed six shops and goods worth millions of naira at the popular Owode Market in Offa, Kwara State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when a fire reportedly sparked by bush burning, spread to sections of the market located in the Isale Oja area of the town.
The blaze was said to have started from a nearby bush burning before extending to sections of the market, causing panic among traders and residents in the area.
Firefighters were subsequently deployed to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent further spread.
