The Champions League “is not the same” without Manchester United, according to forward Matheus Cunha, highlighting the team’s significance to European football as they qualified for the upcoming campaign.
The forward made the comments following a goal in United’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Liverpool F.C. at Old Trafford, which ensured their return to the competition with games remaining, as reported by BBC Sport on Monday.
Cunha was moved by the team’s comeback and maintained that United should be at the top.
“This club without the Champions League is not the same club, and the Champions League without this club is not the same competition,” he declared.
Additionally, he emphasized that qualifying should be viewed as a starting point for more ambitious goals rather than the team’s ultimate objective. However, it goes beyond just the Champions League. We must compete for the crowns. “This is the initial [step],” he continued.
Under interim manager Michael Carrick, who has enjoyed a successful run since taking over, United’s performance has improved. Cunha commended his leadership and impact on the team.
Playing at this club is one of my greatest honors.
He declared, “The Champions League is not the same competition without this club.”
The Brazilian forward has played a significant role in United’s campaign, scoring crucial goals in pivotal games like those against Chelsea and Arsenal to help the side regain its place among Europe’s best.
Cunha emphasized that United needs to build on their achievements and set bigger goals as the season draws to a close. He expressed the team’s rising confidence by saying, “We could come much stronger for next season.”
