The official FIFA World Cup song will be performed by Nigerian Afrobeats artist Burna Boy and Colombian pop sensation Shakira during the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City.
The two will perform *Dai Dai*, the tournament’s official anthem, on stage at Estadio Azteca on June 11 prior to the first game between Mexico and South Africa.
FIFA said in a statement announcing the performance, “Dai Dai is a celebration of football’s power to unite people across cultures and continents,” as reported on Friday.
One of the focal points of the opening ceremony is anticipated to be the song’s title, which is an Italian word that means “let’s go” or “come on.”
The event, which begins the month-long competition, will also feature performances by South African singer-songwriter Tyla and Colombian reggaeton artist J Balvin.
FIFA continued, “We wanted a song that captures the energy, passion, and global spirit of the FIFA World Cup.” “Shakira and Burna Boy unite two of the most significant musical voices in the world.”
Three opening ceremonies are scheduled around the tournament’s host countries, including one in Mexico. Before Canada’s opening game against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on June 12, celebrations will be led by Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette.
Prior to the United States’ match against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, American pop sensation Katy Perry and rapper Future will perform.
Following the success of earlier World Cup songs, such as *Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)* and *La La La*, Shakira’s return to the World Cup stage maintains her long affiliation with football’s biggest tournament.
Along with Madonna and K-pop trio BTS, the singer will co-headline the World Cup final’s first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show on July 19.
