$50 Million Is Secured By Africa50 To Expedite Infrastructure Projects.

Two international development financing organizations have committed an additional $50 million to Africa50 in order to expedite the development of climate-resilient infrastructure projects throughout the continent.

The investments were made public on Wednesday at the Africa50 General Shareholders Meeting and the 2026 Infra for Africa Forum in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa – Project Development Fund (AGIA-PD) received a $40 million commitment from Italy’s Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and a $10 million pledge from Proparco, the private sector financing division of France’s Agence Française de Développement Group.

One of the largest obstacles to infrastructure financing in Africa is addressed by the AGIA Project Development Fund, which is run by Africa50 and offers early-stage risk capital to construct bankable green infrastructure projects around the continent.

With support from the African Development Bank, Germany’s KfW Development Bank, the West African Development Bank, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, the Soros Economic Development Fund, and the African Climate Foundation, the fund achieved its first close of $118 million in August 2025. The most recent commitments boost the fund’s momentum.

Africa50 hopes to raise $400 million for the fund, which may lead to up to $10 billion in bankable green infrastructure investment possibilities around the continent.

Infrastructure is still essential for linking capital with investment possibilities that may propel Africa’s economic transformation and promote a more resilient and sustainable future, according to Africa50 Group CEO Alain Ebobissé, who spoke at the summit.

African heads of state, investors, project developers, and politicians gathered at the Tanzanian government-hosted gathering at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Center to examine methods for funding infrastructure development throughout the continent.

African Development Bank President Sidi Ould Tah, who also chairs Africa50, and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan both spoke at the meeting.

Stephen Mari, Head of Debt and Equity Funds at CDP International Cooperation, stated that the organization was pleased to be one of the original limited partners of AGIA-PD and that the fund was in line with the goals of Italy’s Mattei Plan for Africa and the Italian Climate Fund.

Tibor Asboth, Head of Private Equity for Africa and the Middle East at Proparco, stated that the investment would promote Africa’s energy transformation and more general development goals while helping to increase the pipeline of green infrastructure projects.

The additional commitments, according  to Anas Charafi, Executive Director of the AGIA Project Development Fund at Africa50, will bolster attempts to raise finance for project preparation, which continues to be the largest obstacle to luring private investment into African infrastructure.
