The Nigeria Police Force has detained at least sixteen persons on suspicion of kidnapping, armed robbery, homicide, sexual offences, cultism, and drug-related activities, in various operations spanning eight states.
This was revealed by Ani Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, in a state-by-state report on police operational accomplishments that was made public on Sunday.
According to Iniedu, during September 17 and 18, 2026, police officers in Oyo State made four arrests in various operations.
He claims that on September 18, the agents detained a suspected kidnapping syndicate member in Kanbi Village, and they also detained two other suspects for allegedly hiding kidnapping crimes.
In connection with an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping in Ibadan on September 17, he said, operatives also detained a suspected serving member of a sister security agency. He added that a blue Toyota Camry purportedly utilised during the operation was found.
The FPRO also revealed that two individuals were detained in relation to alleged sexual offences in Oyo State, one of them was detained for allegedly assaulting a three-year-old girl in Saki.
He claims that while the victim was being treated at a hospital, authorities found a Panasonic tape and a bloodstained boxer short as evidence in the Saki case.
Iniedu reported that three different operations in Delta State resulted in the arrest of six individuals.
“On September 18, police officers detained a suspect in relation to the alleged defilement of a juvenile in Delta State’s Ughelli South Local Government Area and another suspect about the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl at Okwagbe Waterside Community in the same LGA.
During an operation on a criminal hotspot in Umusadege, Kwale, Delta State, “operatives also arrested three suspects for suspected drug trafficking and cult-related activities,” he continued.
Iniedu said that two individuals were taken into custody in different operations in Kogi State.
According to the statement, police investigators detained a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on September 19 at Ohunene Community, Ajaokuta LGA, and another suspect in connection with a reported missing person case at Anyigba, Dekina LGA.
Police found a gun that was allegedly used in the Ajaokuta incident, according to the FPRO.
Iniedu stated that the police officers in Kano State detained a female suspect on September 18 in relation to her husband’s death at Katsalle Quarters, Rogo Local Government Area.
Following community agitation at Ebedebiri, Sagbama LGA on September 20, Iniedu revealed that police officers in Bayelsa State transferred a murder suspect to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Yenagoa for protective custody.
He claimed that in order to re-establish law and order, tactical troops were sent to the impacted area.
According to Iniedu, all of the cases were being looked into by the relevant State Criminal Investigation Departments, and the police were still trying to find anyone else who might be involved in the alleged crimes.
“The reported operations were part of the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to respond to credible intelligence, apprehend suspects, and disrupt criminal activities across the affected states,” the statement ended.
