Nasir Idris, the governor of Kebbi State, has joined Nigeria’s delegation at the 81st UN General Assembly session, which is being place in New York, USA.
Alongside Vise President Kashim Shettima, who is representing President Bola Tinubu at the international conference, Idris is taking part in Nigeria’s engagements.
Ahmed Idris, the governor’s chief press secretary, signed a statement on Tuesday revealing the governor’s involvement.
“Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All” is the subject of the 81st UN General Assembly, which got underway on September 8, 2026.
In order to discuss global issues such as sustainable development, climate change, peace and security, human rights, technological transformation, and multilateral cooperation, the high-level meeting brings together world leaders and representatives of member nations, according to the statement.
According to the statement, at a briefing that members of the Nigerian delegation attended, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Ojukwu described Nigeria’s meetings, activities, and commitments during the General Assembly.
It stated that on Thursday, September 24, Shettima was scheduled to deliver Nigeria’s national statement at the General Debate.
According to the statement, Idris’ involvement will give Kebbi a chance to interact with international organisations, investors, development partners, and world leaders, with an emphasis on luring capital and fortifying alliances for the state’s advancement.
The statement partially stated, “Governor Nasir Idris’s participation offers Kebbi State an opportunity to engage with global leaders, development partners, investors, and international organisations, with particular attention to attracting investment and strengthening partnerships that can contribute to the state’s development.”
The governor is also anticipated to take part in talks about investment, sustainable development, security, and peace, especially those pertaining to the planned introduction of the Northwest Peace, Security, and Development Framework, 2026–2030.
The statement also mentions the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, the Nigeria Investment Forum, the African-Caribbean High-Level Interactive Dialogue, and the SDG Roundtable Discussion 2026.
According to the statement, the involvement of state governors and other Nigerian officials was a component of initiatives to improve Nigeria’s relationship with foreign partners and encourage investment, development collaboration, and strategic alliances.
AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, and Babagana Zulum of Borno states were among the other governors present during the briefing.
Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development; Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Minister of Women Affairs; Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning; and Jimoh Ibrahim, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, were also in attendance.
