The Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended four suspected burglars during a raid on a criminal hideout in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, the suspects were arrested on Sunday following an intelligence-driven operation at the hideout located in the Omisanjana area of Ado Ekiti.
According to a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Monday, Abutu disclosed that police operatives recovered a substantial quantity of items believed to be stolen during burglary and theft operations.
He added that four suspects were apprehended in connection with the recovery. The suspects were identified as 39-year-old Abdurazak Suleiman, 27-year-old John Okori, 32-year-old Francis Okori, and 30-year-old Kehinde Alabi, all residents of the Omisanjana area of Ado Ekiti.
A search conducted at the residence resulted in the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen from different shops. The recovered exhibits included assorted perfumes, bathing soaps, alcoholic drinks, food items, body care products, cotton fabrics, clothing, a school bag, a 3kg gas cylinder, and a sledgehammer suspected to have been used in carrying out burglary operations.
Preliminary findings indicated that the suspects were cohabiting in the same apartment. Further investigations also linked them to the recent burglary of a shop at Ekute Quarters in Ado Ekiti, near the Water Works construction site, where some of the suspects were reportedly employed as labourers.
The police spokesperson stated that efforts were underway to identify and locate the owner of the burgled shop, as well as any other potential victims, to facilitate the identification and return of recovered items. He added that a thorough investigation had been launched to establish the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in burglary and other criminal activities.
According to Abutu, the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo Falade, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to maintain intelligence-driven policing strategies aimed at safeguarding lives and property throughout the state.
He further noted that the commissioner encouraged residents to continue providing prompt and reliable information to the police, assuring them that every report would be handled with strict confidentiality.
