Areas of Lagos and Osun states have experienced power outages due to distinct interruptions in electricity infrastructure, as the breakdown of two key transmission lines has decreased power supply in Lagos and flooding has harmed distribution facilities in some regions of Osun.
On Sunday, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company stated that its network’s electricity allocation was decreased due to the failure of the Oshogbo-Ikeja 330kV transmission line and the Benin-Egbin 330kV transmission line, necessitating load shedding in several of its business units.
The DisCo announced, “Certain business units might face loadshedding.” Reason: Grid Interruption.
“Osogbo/Ikeja 330kV线路停运。” The 330kV line from Benin to Egbin is inactive. Effect: Decrease in grid distribution.
EKEDC guaranteed customers that it was collaborating with the national grid operator to reestablish regular electricity supply as soon as the impacted transmission lines are back in operation.
“We maintain ongoing communication with the national grid operator and will resume supply as soon as the lines are repaired.” “Thank you for your understanding,” it said.
The DisCo did not mention when the transmission lines would be back to normal but stated that it was working with the appropriate authorities to restore electricity supply promptly.
The most recent transmission outages occurred just a week after the Transmission Company of Nigeria announced force majeure on its Oworonshoki 132/33kV and Lekki 330/132kV transmission substations due to significant flooding at the sites.
The flooding has persisted in affecting electricity provision to numerous areas of Lagos, with EKEDC previously cautioning that restoration will rely on the accessibility of the impacted transmission facilities.
The impacted locations encompass Chevy View Estate, Chevron Drive, Agungi Area, Alpha Beach, Ikate, Elegushi Area, Carlton Gate, Kusenla, Victory Park Estate, Oniru, Maroko, Muri Okunola, Ajose Adeogun, Ligali Ayorinde, and a portion of Aboyade Cole.
Additional locations include Morinho Drive, Landmark Road, Igbo Efon, Lekki Tollgate 2 Area, Igbokusu, Gbangbala, Platinum Way, Jakande/Coastal Road, OADC/Mayegun Area, Ajiran vicinity, Chevron Alternative Area, and Osapa London Area.
At the time of submitting this report, residents in areas of Lagos such as Lekki, Agbara, and Festac reported experiencing extended outages and requested prompt restoration of service.
A Festac resident, Isi Okwuadi, inquired, “Could you provide an update on the ongoing power outage, please?” Total power outage for four consecutive days on 21 Road, Festac. “Kindly provide us the ability to at least draw water.”
In response, EKEDC stated, “Your region is presently facing decreased power supply because of a cut in grid allocation.” “We are striving to bring back complete supply and will inform you as soon as this situation gets better.”
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company reported that flooding at the Ilerin Injection Substation, triggered by a severe windstorm, has interrupted electricity service to various communities in Osun State.
As reported by the DisCo, the flooding impacted the Isare 11kV, Irogbo 11kV, and Mount Carmel 11kV feeders, causing outages in Ifewara, Iwara, Bolorunduro, Irogbo, Ayeso, Odo-Oro, Wesley, Express Area, Ilerin, Irojo, Olomilagbala, Iwikun, Isare, and nearby communities.
“Our technical team is dedicated to restoring the power supply.” “We truly regret the trouble caused,” IBEDC stated.
