Nine people have been detained by the Jigawa State Police Command in relation to distinct incidents of violent disturbances at Gujungu Market in the state’s Taura Local Government Area, an attack on a police facility, and culpable homicide.

In a statement provided on Monday in Dutse, the state capital, SP Shi’isu Adam, the state police public relations officer, verified this.

The PPRO claims that the arrests are a component of the command’s ongoing efforts to uphold law and order throughout the state.

Adam stated, “On July 26, 2026, the command arrested two suspects in connection with the violent unrest that erupted at Gujungu Market.”

He clarified that a brawl at the market was the cause of the unrest.

“A soldier and one Biniya Alhaji Ibrahim, 25, of Miga Local Government Area, reportedly got into a fight at the market,” he said.

Later, the situation turned violent, according to the police spokesperson.

According to the PPRO, “the soldier allegedly stabbed Biniya with a knife during the altercation, resulting in injuries from which the victim was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.”

He said that attacks on security personnel and property resulted from the turmoil.

“After the incident, some thugs exploited the situation by attacking a police station, shooting security personnel with bows and arrows, and setting two thatched shops on fire within the market,” he claimed.

Adam claimed that two people were apprehended as a result of intelligence-led operations.

“While efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices, police operatives arrested two suspects believed to have actively participated in the attack through sustained intelligence-led operations,” he continued.

He named the accused as Faridu Mohammed and Muhammad Muhammed, 22, of Gagarawa Local Government Area.

The PPRO reported that six further suspects were detained in connection with an assault on vigilantes.

Six individuals were detained on August 2, 2026, for reportedly using sticks and cutlasses to attack two vigilante members in a subsequent incident that resulted from the same disturbance.

“One vigilante member suffered fatal injuries as a result of the assault and was declared dead by a medical professional, while the second victim is currently responding to treatment at a medical facility,” he stated.

Additionally, the police revealed that they had found animals that had been left behind during the crisis.

Adam added, “The command also recovered six cows that were thought to have been abandoned during the unrest.”

Isiyaku Abdulkarim, 55; Yahaya Habu, 31; Ibrahim Abubakar, 30; Audu Mamman Janare, 30; Ya’u Duga, 65; and Mamman Musa, 20—all from Taura, Gagarawa, Kaugama, and Jahun local government areas—were designated as the six suspects.

In a different instance, the police reported that a fatal stabbing had occurred in Dabigel Village, Ringim Local Government Area.

“The command received a report of a culpable homicide incident that occurred at Dabigel Village, Ringim Local Government Area, today, Monday, August 3, 2026, at approximately 10:30 hours,” Adam said.

According to preliminary findings, the tragedy happened after two young guys got into a fight.

“A preliminary investigation showed that two 20-year-old youths had a disagreement that turned violent, with one of them allegedly stabbing the other in the chest with a sharp metal object (Danbuda),” he stated.

Adam clarified that the victim passed away in the hospital.

“The victim suffered severe injuries and was taken to the hospital, where a doctor declared him dead while he was being treated.”

He claimed that the cops moved quickly to make an arrest.

“Police officers quickly apprehended Saminu Ibrahim, 20, of Gidan Gona Village, Ringim Local Government Area, in relation to the incident.”

The suspect will be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, for a covert investigation once the case is finished being looked into. The suspect will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction to face the full weight of the law after the investigation is finished, according to the PPRO.

A stakeholder engagement with Miyetti Allah, community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, security agencies, youth representatives, and other pertinent stakeholders is presently underway, according to the Jigawa State Police Command.

Finding long-term solutions is the goal of the gathering, according to the PPRO.

He continued, “The engagement is to strengthen community cooperation, address the root causes of the Gujungu Market incident, and prevent a recurrence.”

Adam stated, “The Commissioner of Police commended the officers’ and other security stakeholders’ professionalism and prompt response in containing the disturbances.”

Additionally, the CP reassured locals of the command’s dedication to security.

The PPRO continued, “He reassured residents that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property and will continue to deal decisively with anyone found engaging in criminal activities.”

In order to support ongoing investigations and improve public safety, the Jigawa State Police Command requested the people to maintain composure, abide by the law, and continue to assist the police by giving prompt, reliable information.
