On Sunday, chaos erupted close to the gate of the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Ilobu, Osun State, following the reported shooting death of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade by suspected thugs.
During the attack, another individual was shot and taken to a hospital for treatment.
The event happened on Sunday afternoon in front of the local government building, next to the deceased’s mother’s palm wine shop.
The attackers, who were allegedly led by a notorious thug named Saheed, also known as “Tanfeani,” had gathered close to the council secretariat and were trying to enter the building when they noticed a man at the palm wine joint wearing a cap in the color of a specific political party.
Sources claim that the armed guys then moved closer to the location, shooting randomly and forcing customers to run for their lives.
Olapade was not the original target of the attack, according to an eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons.
“We all ran in different directions,” he remarked. Those thugs most likely had no intention of killing the youngster. As they were about to enter the secretariat, they observed someone at the palm wine establishment across from the council gate wearing a political party-colored cap.
“When the tragedy occurred, we were all unwinding there. Everyone began to flee as soon as we noticed the armed men moving in our direction. They were firing at us. Ezekiel was shot in the confusion and instantly died.
“The other man who was shot made it out alive. The person with the political party-colored headgear was him. The dead was the drinking establishment’s owner’s son.
The Osun State Police Command spokesperson, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the event and stated that Saheed, also known as Tanfeani, was in charge of the alleged attackers.
”The incident occurred this afternoon near the entrance of the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Ilobu.
One Saheed, also called Tanfeani, arrived with other goons and opened fire. Ezekiel Olapade, 14, was struck by a gunshot during the procedure and instantly killed.
An additional individual, whose name is still unknown, was also struck by a gunshot and is presently undergoing medical care in a hospital.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the prime suspect and his accomplices, who are still at large,” according to Ojelabi.
