French football icon, Zinedine Zidane, is said to have finalized an agreement to serve as the new head coach of the French national team through June 2030.
Transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano, stated in a Facebook post on Tuesday that the ex-Real Madrid coach would be officially announced in the next few days.
“Zinedine Zidane has been appointed as the new head coach of France through June 2030.” The news has been verified, as Zizou is set to be announced as the new head coach in the coming days — returning to work with France,” Romano stated.
The Italian journalist states that Zidane is anticipated to manage France in the 2027 UEFA Nations League, Euro 2028, and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Romano concluded the post with his signature line, “Here we go, confirmed.”
Zidane, 54, has not held a coaching position since departing Real Madrid in 2021 following his second tenure with the Spanish club.
While in Madrid, he secured three straight UEFA Champions League titles from 2016 to 2018, along with two La Liga championships and various other national and international awards.
The 1998 World Cup champion has often been associated with the France role and was largely seen as a possible replacement for Didier Deschamps, who has overseen Les Bleus since 2012.
Deschamps is anticipated to step down from his position following the 2026 World Cup period, while Zidane has been associated with the France coaching role for some time and has openly shown interest in leading the national team.
At the time this report was filed, the French Football Federation had not released an official statement confirming Zidane’s hiring.
