The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation has finalized arrangements to train officials prior to the first Michael Opeyemi Bamidele National Taekwondo Championship set to take place in Lagos.
The training for officials is scheduled for September 16, two days prior to the two-day championship starting on September 18 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.
NTF President Tayo Popoola stated that the training was essential to guarantee the championship was held according to international standards.
Popoola emphasized that the federation was dedicated to organizing a competition that would adhere to international standards and offer officials and athletes the necessary platform to display their skills.
“We are focused on organizing the event in accordance with global best practices in every aspect.” “It’s standard procedure, and thus we involve them on Wednesday before the event begins on Friday,” Popoola stated.
Opeyemi Bamidele, the former Commissioner for Sports in Lagos State and ex-Commissioner for Information and Strategy, is funding the tournament, which the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation intends to use as a preparation for upcoming international events.
Bamidele, a Senator in Nigeria, thinks that sports can significantly contribute to fosteringnational unity and empowering young people. He has backed numerous athletic events previously as part of his dedication to sports advancement.
All 36 states in the federation, along with the Federal Capital Territory, are anticipated to take part in the championship, with teams from throughout the nation also prepared to compete. Paramilitary groups have also expressed their desire to participate in the event.
The NTF has maintained open registration, enabling states and clubs that haven’t registered to do so before the championship.
