A truck accidently pulled down a high-tension power line servicing the WiseBuyers Supermarket Distribution Transformer in Arepo, Ogun State, on Monday night, injuring two electricity poles and causing a safety threat for locals.
One of the poles was dangerously leaning after the event, which happened about 9 p.m., and electrical lines were left hanging low, endangering adjacent businesses, homes, drivers, and pedestrians.
Akinlolu Akinpelumi, the secretary of the Arepo region Community Development Council’s Electricity Committee, advised locals to stay away from the impacted region and use caution in a public notification released on Tuesday.
“A truck unintentionally pulled the high-tension line serving the Wise Buyers Distribution Transformer, resulting in significant damage to two electricity poles and associated electrical infrastructure,” stated Akinpelumi.
“One pole is dangerously leaning due to the incident, and electrical cables are hanging low, posing a serious risk to the safety of nearby businesses, residents, pedestrians, and drivers.”
He cautioned locals not to touch, move, or drive over the damaged electrical equipment and urged them to avoid the damaged poles and hanging lines.
“We strongly encourage everyone to avoid any fallen or hanging electrical cables, as well as any damaged poles. He advised against touching, moving, or driving over any of the impacted electrical equipment or cables.
The energy distribution company had been notified of the event, and measures were being made to secure the damaged infrastructure,” Akinpelumi continued.
”Ikeja Electric has been informed of the event, and we are working with the appropriate technical team to protect the damaged infrastructure and expedite repairs.
Until the necessary repairs are completed, the extent of the damage may affect the power supply to customers served by the Wise Buyers Distribution Transformer,” he continued.
While repairs are being made, he asked locals to maintain composure, assist emergency and technical staff, and identify any new dangers in the region right away.
