Thirteen male suspects between the ages of 20 and 27 were detained on suspicion of armed robbery, vandalism of government property, and illegal gun ownership, according to the Abia Police Command.
DSP Maureen Chinaka, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday morning.
One locally manufactured handgun, one locally manufactured single-barrel gun, two live rounds, one Beretta pistol, and one pump-action gun are among the found exhibits.
Six live cartridges, a cutlass, an axe, what appear to be hard drugs, walkie-talkies, a face mask, two red and one black beret are among the other exhibits.
“The Abia State Police Command has continued to record significant successes in its kinetic and non-kinetic operational strategies in combating crime across the State, leveraging actionable intelligence,” said Chinaka.
She revealed that Uchenna Agbneiwu, a 27-year-old resident of Ubakala, Umuahia, but a native of Nkume in Orlu LGA, Imo State, was caught and taken into custody by members of the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU.
The PPRO stated, “He was found in possession of a vandalized large galvanized pipeline concealed with sawdust in a white Toyota Hiace bus,” and that attempts are still underway to capture further fugitive suspects.
Williams Ifeanyi, 27, of Market Road, Aba, was arrested on Sunday by VCRU, Aba North, agents, she continued.
She claimed that a weapon and live ammunition were found on the suspect after he confronted and robbed a victim of his luggage and personal things near Market Road by Rail while brandishing a gun.
Similarly, on January 8, 2026, members of the Urratta Divisional Police Station used actionable intelligence to apprehend David Anyaka, 26, and John Chigozie, 25, who were involved in an armed robbery at a hotel in Aba. Live ammunition and a handgun were found. The investigation is still under progress.
Additionally, on April 8, 2026, members of a violent criminal organization (cultists) were arrested by personnel of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Bende Road, during a meeting at Umuezeagwu, Umuahia North, based on reliable intelligence. One pump-action gun, one Beretta pistol, live ammunition, a cutlass, an axe, what appeared to be hard drugs, walkie-talkies, a face mask, two red berets, and one black beret were found after the suspects were taken into custody. The investigation is still under progress.
The Command reaffirmed its dedication to upholding law and order, preventing and detecting criminal activity, and safeguarding people and property.
It urged Abians to promptly notify the closest police station of any security concerns as collaborators in the fight against crime.
