Manchester United has put portions of the historic Old Trafford pitch up for sale, with each 7x7cm chunk costing £125, according to reports.
Presented in a black box and protected inside glass cubes, the initial batch of turf has already sold out.
The move coincides with United’s announcement that their total debt is still more than £1 billion.
For the 2025–2026 fiscal year, the club reported a pre-tax loss of £43 million despite record revenue of £677.6 million and an operating profit of £22.6 million.
Additionally, United said that £63.5 million had been spent on land acquisition for a new stadium; the project is anticipated to cost over £2 billion.
For the first time in fourteen years, the Old Trafford pitch was excavated this summer and reduced to its base.
A portion of the turf was saved for fans’ keepsakes.
The glass cubes, according to the club, are a “priceless memento” of memorable games played at Old Trafford and a means of preserving matchday memories.
The sale gives fans the opportunity to own a tiny plot of land that has played host to many Manchester United players over the years and some of the team’s most iconic games.
